Lake Balaton – Siófok, Balatonfüred, Tihany, Hévíz, Keszthely

Lake Balaton is the largest lake in Central Europe and the number one destination for travel within Hungary. Siófok, the hub of the southern shore, lies about 109 km from the capital – little more than an hour along the M7. On the northern shore, the promenades of Balatonfüred, a spa resort from the nineteenth-century Reform Era, and the Benedictine abbey on the Tihany peninsula await visitors, while at the western tip of the lake Hévíz and Keszthely are the two centres of health tourism and palace visits. In summer most people travel for weddings, company year-end events and family holidays; in spring and autumn for conferences and wellness weekends. Northern Hungary – Eger, Miskolc and the Tokaj wine region

The M3 motorway and its branches lead to historic castles and world-famous wine regions. Eger, with its castle, basilica and the wine cellars of the Valley of the Beautiful Women (Szépasszony-völgy), is ideal even for a day trip; Miskolc is the area’s industrial and university centre, at the foot of the Bükk hills, with Lillafüred and the Miskolctapolca Cave Bath nearby. The Tokaj wine region has been a World Heritage cultural landscape since 2002 and is the home of Aszú – and it is also where Bodrogkeresztúr (Kerestir) lies, one of the most important destinations for Hasidic pilgrims, which we cover on our Kerestir pilgrimage page. Eastern Hungary and the Great Plain – Debrecen

Debrecen is Hungary’s second-largest city, home to the Reformed Great Church and the University of Debrecen, and its economic weight is increasingly shaped by the automotive industry. Debrecen International Airport lies a few kilometres from the city centre, so you can book a transfer not only from the capital but also from the airport into the city or to the surrounding plants. The Southern Great Plain – Szeged

Szeged, on the banks of the Tisza, is the city of sunshine: a university centre, a city of scientific conferences and research institutes, and in summer the prestigious venue of the Szeged Open-Air Festival in Dóm tér. A comfortable drive of under two hours along the M5 takes you there, passing Kecskemét on the way. Details: Szeged transfer.

Southern Transdanubia – Pécs and the Villány wine region

Pécs is a cultural city with a Mediterranean feel on the southern slopes of the Mecsek hills: it was a European Capital of Culture in 2010, its Early Christian burial chambers are a World Heritage Site, and the Zsolnay Cultural Quarter is home to events and exhibitions. Western Transdanubia – Győr and Sopron

Győr, on the M1 halfway between Budapest and Vienna, is one of Hungary’s strongest industrial centres, with a Baroque old town; Sopron is the “most loyal town”, the land of the Fertő landscape and Kékfrankos wine, right beside the Austrian border. Which car should you take for a journey across Hungary?

On a two-hour journey the vehicle matters far more than on a short city transfer. For one to three passengers, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class is the elegant, good-value choice that stays comfortable over long distances; the S-Class is the marque’s flagship sedan, with a spacious rear cabin and electrically adjustable, heated seats. The 100% electric Mercedes-Benz EQS, with its long range, reaches any corner of the country with ease, and its massage seats and superb sound insulation make even a long journey restful.

For families and small groups we recommend the seven-seat Mercedes-Benz V-Class, whose facing seats let you talk or hold a meeting on the move; for the same number of passengers, the fully electric, very quiet long-wheelbase Peugeot e-Traveller is also ideal, with a large boot. If you have a lot of luggage – golf bags, exhibition materials, the suitcases for a longer holiday – the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter VIP takes six passengers and twelve pieces of luggage. From the regions to the capital

From anywhere in Hungary to Budapest and the airport

Our domestic transfers work in the other direction too. For an early-morning flight, it is hard to reach Ferenc Liszt Airport on time by public transport from Debrecen, Pécs or Lake Balaton, and leaving your own car in airport parking for several days often causes more trouble than it saves. In such cases a car leaving in the middle of the night is the simplest solution: you rest in the back seat while your chauffeur takes you via the M0 straight to the terminal.

In the same way, we arrange journeys from the regions to an evening at the theatre, a concert or a sporting event in Budapest – timing the journey home to the end of the performance or match. Passengers arriving at or departing from regional airports, such as Debrecen International Airport or Hévíz–Balaton Airport at Sármellék, near Keszthely and Hévíz, can also request a quote.
